DaniLeigh makes soundtracks for guarded love and late-night lust. Since unloading her breakout single, “Play,” in 2017, Dani's found fans by sharing her deepest feelings, a process she'll continue on My Side, a gripping new EP featuring expert production from Rodney Jerkins and rich with ruminations on fractured romance. While the EP can be heavy, it's also cathartic as Dani reclaims her confidence. But Dani's been cultivating her musical identity since she was a kid. By 16, she was an accomplished background dancer, and in 2013, when she was only 18, Prince himself asked her to direct his “Breakfast Can Wait” video. (She's since danced and choreographed for folks ranging from Pharrell to Daddy Yankee to Nelly Furtado).
By 2017, she inked a deal with Def Jam Records and released the flirtatious project Summer with Friends. In 2018, she leveled up once again with The Plan, featuring her Platinum-selling “Lil Bebe,” with Lil Baby, and “Easy,” which would get certified triple-Platinum after her friend Chris Brown jumped on the remix. Between 2019 and 2020, Dani continued her steady grind, releasing projects like My Present, Movie, and In My Feelings, each diving deeper into her emotions and ability. And yet, My Side goes deeper still. As she sifts through complex feelingsO and shares her realizations with the world, Dani projects a simple, yet powerful philosophy that powers all her work. “At the end of the day, this is just a moment,” she says. “You gotta just keep going.” |
